چکیده

Abstract Hordeum vulgare var. nudum (naked barley) is one of the oldest and most common cereals found from Neolithic Fennoscandia. After Bronze Age, naked barley largely disappeared was replaced by (hulled other cereals. During early 19th century, Asian origins reintroduced to In this study, we have genetically characterized samples Fennoscandian landraces which were preserved in gene banks museum collections. The analyses show that can be split into three groups: First, two-row barley, with a likely origin Asia; second, six-row eastern Himalayas introduced during century; third, related original hulled barley. results suggest last group represents ancient form possibly Neolithic. At time both barleys grown enough flow probably occurred between these two subspecies create distinct, irrespective whether it or naked. This hypothesis further supported genotyping Nud gene, responsible for phenotype. All studied contained same mutation allele, nud1.a , thus showing arose crossings not new mutations

Transcriptome Assembly and Analysis of Tibetan Hulless Barley (Hordeum vulgare L. var. nudum) Developing Grains, with Emphasis on Quality Properties

BACKGROUND Hulless barley is attracting increasing attention due to its unique nutritional value and potential health benefits. However, the molecular biology of the barley grain development and nutrient storage are not well understood. Furthermore, the genetic potential of hulless barley has not been fully tapped for breeding. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS In the present study, we investiga...

On the origin and domestication history of Barley (Hordeum vulgare).

Remains of barley (Hordeum vulgare) grains found at archaeological sites in the Fertile Crescent indicate that about 10,000 years ago the crop was domesticated there from its wild relative Hordeum spontaneum. The domestication history of barley is revisited based on the assumptions that DNA markers effectively measure genetic distances and that wild populations are genetically different and the...

Lysine Catabolism in Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.).

Lysine catabolism in seedlings of barley (Hordeum vulgare L. var. Emir) was studied by direct injection of the following tracers into the endosperm of the seedlings: aspartic acid-3-(14)C, 2-aminoadipic acid-1-(14)C, saccharopine-(14)C, 2,6-diaminopimelic acid-1-(7)-(14)C, and lysine-1-(14)C. Labeled saccharopine was formed only after the administration of either labeled 2,6-diaminopimelic acid...

Allelopathic Plants. 19. Barley (Hordeum vulgare L)

Barley is integrated with other crops to inhibit weed growth, through allelopathic interactions. Effects of barley on growth of other crops, weeds and autotoxicity among cultivars result primarily from allelopathy mediated by allelochemicals released from plant components and/or exuded from living roots. A limited number of allelochemicals are identified that contributes to allelopathic effecti...
